What to Do After You Get a BMI Result

BMI is a screening number, not a diagnosis, so use it as one data point and keep the limits clear.

A BMI result can be useful as a quick screening number, but it does not measure body composition, fitness, medical history, or individual health risk.

After using the BMI calculator, check that height and weight units were entered correctly. If you are tracking change over time, a body change percentage can be more useful than reacting to one reading.

Look at the trend, not just the day. An average trend over several measurements is usually more informative than a single result taken after travel, stress, or a different routine.
